NOT friends only 8D

Hi, my name is Ginny, and emotional constipation and multi-fandom whoring are my game.
This place is born of rock n' roll, shiny feathers, magic wands and rainbow socks,
so feel free to add me up and comment whenever you want! :D

Yesterday, I read this article from a Canadian blogger about why local arts scenes are dying and posted about it on my Facebook (yeah, we've already established that I don't give much of a shit about fandom-RL exclusivity -- add me up there if you feel the same way! I've already been friends with a handful of LJ and Tumblr folks for at least a year lol), and I didn't realise I had so many feelings about our local arts scene until I started discussing it with various friends afterwards.

Which is a little weird because I've been into the arts since I was very little? Into it meaning I've been exposed to musicales since age five (Les Miserables was my first love) and grew up with a former-singer-performer mother and enjoyed doodling since god-knows-when, but never really did much to hone it--with the exception of being active in school plays during elementary and high school, and taking a lot of performance arts classes and doing a lot of video assignments at uni (I was a Communications/Media Arts student *shrug*). So I guess part of the feelings also came from my frustrations with not being able to fully pursue anything creative? So now I'm living vicariously through my artist friends by going to their events and pimping them out, while I struggle to help my family get out of the financial shit we're in on the side even though I can never say that I'd ever be happy with corporate life.

Heh, yeah. I think this pretty much replaces what fandom life I used to have. An existential crisis.

I CAN'T.

Oh, wow. Um. Hi. I recently got [livejournal.com profile] cherrybina to friend me here after having said that I use LJ for RL stuff I can't tell just anyone, too, and it made me realise that I haven't been using LJ in the past few months at all? I am horrid. I have allowed the rest of my life to take over my YOLO (You Only Live Online). Let's try to fix that now.

Hm.

Yeah, okay, I got nothing.

HI GUYS! 8D

Edit. I still owe [livejournal.com profile] claudine and [livejournal.com profile] copperiisulfate the details behind #myfanficlyf. SOON.

This is my first day off from EVERYTHING (work, school & home--I stay with my grandparents on weekdays and only go home to my family for the weekend but instead of that being relaxing, it's usually quite hectic because being around my mum can be quite a challenge that way; still love her though) in a while, and I'm more stressed out than usual. I can name two reasons behind this:

One, even though I'm not in the office or at school, I still can't help but think of homework and my deliverables for the following week. The school stuff is all group work, but I'm the leader for one project and I--why. And then so much pending shit for the day job. Plus freelance, because I need money, being the family cash cow and all.

Two, I'd missed out on two activities that I really wanted to join this weekend. Was invited to climb Mt Pulag (one of the most famous places to climb in the Philippines) some time ago but immediately had to decline because I knew the trip was going to fall on the week of my period. And true enough, I got my period last Wednesday-- so even though one person kept trying to convince me to go up until the last minute, I really couldn't say yes. Then as luck would have it, my body decides to stop bleeding last night, the very night everyone left Manila for the trip. It would have still been fine and dandy because Stars is playing here tonight and I've been told that they are truly wonderful live. But. Tickets sold out the moment I managed to have enough money to buy one. So.

I'm just going to do freelance stuff instead. And then go home to my Mum in the evening. Home-made meals are always the best.

--

In lighter news, IHOP opened here yesterday so I went to check it out with friends for our weekly session of Fitness Eating (usually scheduled on Thursday but we made an exception this week because Valentine's crowd dnw 8D), where we are constantly left to suspect whether all the restaurants we dine in spike their food and drinks with marijuana--or wonder if it's really just us. ABS (A Big Stomach) galore.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] claudine has set up a Merlin/Arthur rec blog on Tumblr and made a slave fic rec list for those of you who are into that. I know I am. ;)

Also, also! Let me pimp out these songs my very good friend wrote when he was still at uni and recently re-uploaded for easier enjoyment. They're quite lovely in that feel-good, let's-relax-and-remember-the-love-we-had-and-lost sort of way. OOPS I MERLIN/ARTHUR FEELS'D ALL OVER THE FLOOR AGAIN.

Oh, and I forgot to mention last week I saw Potted Potter after a friend gave me free tickets to the show. That was a lot of fun. I got "sorted" into Slytherin for the Quidditch portion, rightfully so. *beams with pride*

RIGHT.

*waves to new friends* Hi guys! First thing you should know about me: when I say I'm going to post an entry the following day, chances are life is going to get in my way and I won't get to do it until nearly a month later. Now that that's out of the way, um. INTRODUCTIONS!

Hi. I'm Ginny. I've been on LJ since 2003 and been a fandom junkie for even longer (my first being Harry Potter and latest being Merlin), and my fandom contributions usually comprise of fan art. These days I'm more active on Twitter (please don't let the love songs for the Pope drive you away; stuff like that only happens when I'm sleep-deprived, which is an honest-to-god (did you see what I did there 8D) very rare occurrence these days because I usually pass out the minute my knees touch the bed), Tumblr (yeeah that's my face; art tumblr is this way), and Facebook (yes I treat that as a fandom space at times as well. No, idgaf about anonymity anymore tbh), but I'm serious about rekindling my relationship with LJ because, well, I love this fucking site. Spambots and all (not really, not the spambots, no).

During the period that I had not updated here, I'd been mostly busy with RL: working at my day job as a graphic designer (I got promoted to marketing officer for creatives and digital marketing recently), going to graduate school (who needs a night life when you've got classes!), trying to survive with what little money is left with me after I've handed most of it over to my mum (Asian ProblemsTM? But for those who have been following me before, hi, my dad has a job again :'D), and barely managing to socialise but doing so regularly anyway. (Friends, y'know. I like them.)

And parenthetical interjections, evidently.

Oh, I've also finally decided to ~follow my dreams~ and go back to acting, aaand I'm in this movie. It's a stoner film that is actually an indie feature about friendships and growing up. I think it's showing this March. Also this girl is seriously hot (bit NSFW). She's not in the film but we're sharing a stylist. Hee.

Fandomwise, at the moment, I have [livejournal.com profile] merlinreversebb and [livejournal.com profile] drawmelot's Creatures Project. But after these two activities and after I've finally given the people I owe the fan art I've promised them (GINNY PLZ), I'm most likely going to lie low and steer clear from the fandom front for a while and just rant about stupid kids with [livejournal.com profile] claudine as we rock about in our chairs on our creaky porch (Old Ladies Club ftw). And probably keep sleeping loads. (OLD LADIES CLUUUUBBBBBB!!!1)

NOW. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELVES, BABES--your favourite ships, the things you enjoy doing for and outside fandom, your favourite tropes, things that make you happy, things that make you sadface, your favourite bands, your favourite song by your favourite band which reminds you of your favourite ship, was it sunny or cloudy or rainy or snowy in your part of the world today, what kind of sloth would you be if you'd magically turned into one right now (I would be fabulous), etc etc etc--WHILE I PASS OUT AND REMAIN SO UNTIL I HAVE TO PANIC ABOUT GOING TO WORK AGAIN.

Old friends, go do it too. Or simply tell me, how are youuuuuuu? ILUs.

ETA. I like this new update page. It's very nifty. 8D

[livejournal.com profile] asya_ana's post on why LJ is awesooooome brought me back to life, and then this meme happened and you know how weak I am for friending memes, f-list, I am so weak for them, SO MUCH. ;A; Proper updates in 4, 3, 2--tomorrow. In the meantime, HOW ARE YOU GUYS? I've been a horrible LJ friend but I'm here again right now hoping you still love me???

Oh look, what's this--

Yeeeeaaah, such are the things I do. Oh, ah, I might be addicted to Icon Pop Quiz on Android. Hn.

you know that feeling when you really really need to pee, but don’t want to get up from wherever you’re seated yet because there’s just so many awesome things to look at or read or do?

that’s exactly what i’m feeling right now with sleep.

it’s like my body can’t stop feeling all tingly and uncomfortable and desperate for me to give in already, but here i am typing away instead, and fuck it’s such a weird and annoying feeling, and fuck- that last all-nighter i puller had really exhausted the life out of me, huh? ow fuck it fucking hurts DX

k. okay. passing out now.
ravyn_ashling: (しんゆう)
It is nearly 4AM on a Hell Week Night(?), and I am sitting here loading One Direction video silliness because I have just spent a little over six hours exhausting my brain and doing seemingly serious but actually pretentious (or is it the other way around?) quote-smart-end-quote person things and sometimes you just need a little bit of fluffy hair and stupid horse face and pseudo hipster assfuckery, plus the most adorable melodic choking disguised as actual singing and I didn't know you called that game "leap frog" in the US and the UK--we call it "leap cow" (luksong-baka) here, though I have a feeling they really wanted to use "carabao" instead because NATIONAL ANIMAL--plus some delicious facial bone structure in your life. Also Irish thugs. And that one that reminds me of Zac Efron, he's lovely too.

Staying at purely lurking status here, though, because. Been there, done that, etc etc etc. I absolutely loved my time in boyband RPF fandom and I learned many a fucking amazing life-changing thing during those two-three years and made such fantastic friends that drove me to be constantly creative and draw all the boys in love and with puppies as their children and, oh god, I tinhatted so hard as a teenager and it was glorious and wonderful and all that hard disk space crumbling as each week passed by... GOOD TIMES. Until it ended and America and--this icon still PAINS me when I see it, okay?

Also I'm giving myself some space from Teen Wolf fandom. Just a bit for the time being. Because Jeff Davis is starting to give me a Ryan Murphy in Glee kind of feeling. Idk, idk. Just a bit. I probably just need it so I can focus on finishing my [livejournal.com profile] avengers_rbb piece(s). My author partner sent me their fic today and it's very lovely~ the kind that has feelings and easy-flowing dialogues and and stuff.

Oh, LJ. I love how I can easily express myself when I'm not myself or too much of myself, a hypersensitized version if you please, without having to deal with, uh, too much publicity here. I like you, LJ. And parts of that fourth wall back, please. I just realised I might not be overly fond of it being taken away after all, Communication nerd or no.

No. No links and no sense of organization here (more so than usual anyway), ehe, because BRAIN SEEPING OUT OF MY EARS, but I developed a new skill today! :D Sleeping for two minutes every five minutes until the sleepies go away and you've programmed yourself into auto-pilot instead. Huzzah.
ravyn_ashling: (しんゆう)
How has my life come to this? I listen to One Direction songs when I'm feeling shitty now. I blame my little brothers, and every fandom person on my tweetlist, especially people like [livejournal.com profile] hungerpunch who make everything seem so cool GDI LO WHY HOW WHY I CAN SING-ALONG TO EVERY SONG ON THE UP ALL NIGHT ALBUM NOW.

Also this morning I managed to get [livejournal.com profile] the_raccoondog to let herself fall victim to Harry Styles' curls and the band's ARASHI-esque shenanigans. (Tons is a big ARASHI fan.) Muhahahaaa--fuck. 8|

smh.

ETA. This is a thing [livejournal.com profile] claudine and I do:

It felt weird how yesterday was Tuesday and I didn't spend half the day waiting for Teen Wolf episode download links to appear. I did find out that my friend Kath, who had originally been appalled by the images the title alone made her imagine, managed to catch the S2 finale on TV last Saturday--and loved the fuck out of it (whereas I only laughed like a lunatic during the entire climax scene). She even tagged me on her spazzy Facebook status to ask me for the whole two seasons. XD Happily obliging.

Not having Political Animals starting next week is going to take even more getting used to, with the added torture of not knowing whether that episode really was just a season finale and the show HAS (oh please please please please? ;A;) been picked up for another season. I saw a post on GetGlue.com about how the actors were actually signed for more seasons should this happen? *FINGERS CROSSED* But the uncertainty!

So I skipped work again today because we were advised last night that the heavy rains would continue the whole day and nearly half of Metro Manila was still flooded. My office mates had the same idea (my boss told me that only he and three other bosses went in today), as well as some friends who work for companies that did not announce suspension for the day.

At around 10 AM, however, the skies began to clear a bit and we could actually see a bit of sun finally. Rainfall warnings were also terminated an hour later. To add to the good vibes, I was suddenly invited to watch Smashing Pumpkins live tonight (first time they've ever decided to hold a concert here, and I had wanted to go so badly when they announced it months ago but sadly had to go on a tighter budget lately) FOR FREE, and, since the weather conditions seemed to be getting slightly better, I immediately said yes.

Unfortunately, come 3PM, it started raining like fuck again--seemingly so much harder than last night that PAGASA eventually had to raise the Red Warning Signal again. With that and with the road I usually take in going home from QC (when I'm driving or taking a cab) being impassable and suffering heavy traffic, I decided to cancel on my companion. A ticket wasted is better than a life wasted for whatever might happen if I'd take the risk, or something like that. Still a fucking downer, though, especially when Billy tweets stuff like this. :(

But yeah. Not as heartbreaking as what's happening everywhere else--not by a mile:

Spent the day online for updates, as well as helping out the people in this house pack relief goods and clothes to donate. Still doesn't feel like enough, though. Never feels like enough.

EDIT. AND YET. XDD

what the sky looks like in Manila right now

Rains have stopped again, but it is very likely they will be back in a few minutes. Classes on all levels in the NCR have been cancelled again for tomorrow, and if work gets suspended again, I might head off to one of the relief operation sites to help out.

Here's a great list of ways to help out, whether you're in the Philippines or outside. All prayers and positive thoughts also welcome. :)

After a three-hour nap and dinner with my grandparents, I'm feeling less on the edge about everything that's been happening, so I think I can finally pop in the latest Teen Wolf and, uh, be on the edge about that for now.

ETA: KEPT ALTERNATING BETWEEN BEING TERRIFIED FOR EVERYBODY AND GIGGLING FROM THE ADORBS, HOLY MOTHER WITHOUT WITHOUT A SOUL, THAT WAS AWESOME.

At around 7:40 AM today, private companies began suspending work in their offices. Mine didn't. And a good number of my office mates still went despite of the heavy rains and flooding outside. I didn't.

Roughly three hours later, the Palace finally announced official suspension of work in private companies in the National Capital Region and other affected areas. FINALLY, the company I work for decided to listen, so no leave credits have been wasted on my part today. (I hear some other companies still refused to allow their employees go home, though. Not cool. ETA: Then again, I don't think it would be very safe to go home in this condition, so staying put at the office might be best for those who are already there.)

Aaaaaand then they bring in people who are stupid and heartless enough to blame the sufferings this weather has caused on the Reproductive Health Bill win. Wow. Just. WOW. Some people are just shit.

(Are there Teen Wolf download links available yet? I need something to distract me from wanting to punch these idiots in their crotches.)

Hooopefully not literally in mine, but a lot of people from other cities are probably dealing with shit water flooding their premises right now. So not cool, weather. You're not even a low-pressure area.

It's times like these that make me smug about being glad I'm a leather boots type of person.

Anyway, because of this, classes have been cancelled tomorrow. I haven't been to class in for two weeks now because of the weather, which probably means we'll be sacrificing our term break to make up for things. Now that I'm no longer an undergraduate kid, I don't mind so much. I'll still be going to work after all, so no big diff either way.

Pah, well. Internet stick's finally, finally cooperating with me, and I now have Political Animals episode 3 successfully downloaded (didn't even make it halfway when I streamed it earlier), so! Uh, live squee posts are usually [livejournal.com profile] copperiisulfate's thing, but I just have to say

TJ saying, "I love you mama," and just calling Elaine "Mama" really, makes me iuewoupgoyusagiryyaeuoeriueioueotioerwdfgkjreiogwupruperuetrieioeru ;o;

I'm so glad they're giving us more backstory about him this ep. I was starting to get pretty fed up with his shit last week, though I knew I was being unfair because there were reasons behind it. It's good to see more of those reasons now.

And I like that one of those reasons is blonde. FOR REASONS, K.

UGH ELAINE IDK WHY EVERYTHING YOU DO TURNS ME ON BUT UGH

Kind of glad for Georgia that she's starting to be a bit more aggressive, but then again I never really liked aggression. Also, oh no, Annie D:

Nope, scratch that. I like the way this girl plays.

... I love everyone in this bar family. Bud! ;_;

Paralleeeeeeeeeeeeeeels.

^ That was me failing to geek with words over pretentious film minor stuff, but my heart is fucking breaking, really. UGH I LOVE THIS SHOW.

Also, I'm leaving the live squee to Mirai, as I should have. This has been Ginny, high from paracetamol (how the fuck), signing off.

Fuck. I wish worked would be cancelled, too. Ha.

It's been Stormaggedon here in the Philippines for the past... week? Weeks? and I have spent this one so far this way:
  • Monday | went on leave for fear of dying from flying roofs and falling tree trunks; then it turned out that the typhoon had already subsided in the Metro, and i beat myself up over having wasted my leave that way. Dad (who normally discourages going on a leave for reasons that are not near-paralytic illness) said not to fret about it, though, since it was raining like a fucking deadly thing on our side of the country so I was eventually able to enjoy my rest day in peace. Relatively.
  • Tuesday | took advantage of the fairly decent weather and finally submitted my scholarship application for grad school--at super speed over lunch. *FINGERS CROSSED* Went to dinner with Potthead friends to celebrate Harry P's 32nd birthday, had an encounter with an idiot cab driver on the way home, and ended up walking the whole kilometer to the train station instead. Instant exercise! Watched the latest episode of Teen Wolf, and flailed and cried inside.
  • Wednesday | Fucking. Overslept. Thanks, Stiles.
Thursday morning - present time | Celebrating "Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa (Month of the National Language)" with friends by speaking purely in Filipino (including non-English-based slang) on Plurk and having a good, hearty, side-splitting laugh about it. We're giving [livejournal.com profile] aesires til sundown before she cracks from the challenge, and starts spouting English again and nothing but Filipino curses instead. (Most Filipinos have gotten so used to mixing the national language with English that it has become extremely difficult to keep speaking in pure Filipino while keeping a straight face.)

Tonight I'll be seeing Brave with a couple of said friends. Excite! :D Meridaaaaa. Can't wait to love youuuuu ♥

Speaking of Clint and Natasha's lovechild, I've been encountering a lot of wank over the upcoming (is it still apt to call it 'upcoming' if it's still about two years away?) Winter Soldier movie lately, a lot of it from people who are afraid that Bucky Barnes will bring in the "ruin" of the Clint/Natasha and Steve/Tony ships, and this just... bothers me. This post pretty much sums up what I feel about it and, as the OP writes about as well, the frustration of Black Widow fans over Natasha not getting her own movie before Bucky.

Basically, (1) I'm with the people in support of more female and POC leads in superhero movies, but I refuse to do this by shitting on characters that actually have a very interesting arc and especially whom I have grown to love; (2) I think ship wars are stupid and pointless, and I'm just going to my corner and enjoy my Avengers love in peace with people who are in the fandom for the love and fun as well, okay? Okay.

ANYWAY. More pleasant stuff: This Teen Wolf meta about the classical elements in the show, and how next season could just be the year of Stiles makes me miss being in lit class at uni; and this spoken word performance about the expectations and realities of love makes me miss performance lit class like endlessly burning. Why did I decide to do a business-related post-grad again? ;_;
